Letterbox is an offline-first word puzzle. It works without an account and without an internet connection, and it is built to collect as little as possible about you.

The short version. No account. No analytics. No ads or advertising identifiers. No in-app purchases. No tracking. The app does not request access to your location, camera, microphone, contacts, or photos. Your game progress can sync through your own iCloud — where only you can read it.

1Who we are

Letterbox is developed and published by 0n1 Studios, a sole proprietorship ("we", "us"). For any privacy question, contact [email protected].

2What we don't do

Letterbox contains no analytics or crash-reporting SDKs, no advertising, no third-party trackers, and no in-app purchases. We do not collect your name, email address, or any contact information, and the app does not ask for permission to use your location, camera, microphone, contacts, or photo library.

3Your game progress & iCloud

Your progress — your total move count, which puzzles you've solved, the board you're partway through, and the genre you last viewed — is stored on your device. If you are signed in to iCloud, this same progress also syncs across your devices using Apple's CloudKit, stored in your private iCloud database.

This data lives in your personal iCloud account. It is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy, and we cannot read it. If you are not signed in to iCloud, Letterbox simply keeps everything locally and works exactly the same offline.

4Creating & sharing puzzles

Letterbox lets you build your own puzzles and share them with friends:

Share codes are generated on your device. The code itself contains the puzzle, so a friend can play it by entering the code — no server lookup is required.
When you choose to publish a custom puzzle so others can find it, the puzzle's contents — the phrase, its attribution, difficulty, genre, an optional creator name you type, and the share code — are stored in a public CloudKit database so it can be imported by code.

Please note: puzzles you publish, including any creator name you add, are public and visible to anyone with the code. The creator name is optional — please don't include personal or sensitive information in puzzles you share.

5What we collect

6Your choices

Stay local: sign out of iCloud (or disable iCloud Drive for Letterbox in iOS Settings) and your progress is kept only on your device.
Remove local data: deleting the app removes its on-device data.
Remove synced data: you can manage or delete Letterbox's iCloud data from iOS Settings → your Apple ID → iCloud.

7Children

Letterbox is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. No personal information is required to play.

8Changes to this policy

If our data practices change, we will update this page and revise the date above.
