Letterbox Accessibility

Built to be played by everyone

Letterbox is designed to work with the assistive features built into iOS. Here's what's supported today, and what we're working on next.

Available now

VoiceOver

You can play the whole board with VoiceOver. Select a letter tile to pick it up, then select another to swap the two — no dragging needed. Each tile announces its letter and whether it's in place, and every control and the post-solve quote are labelled.

Dynamic Type

Text scales with the reading size you set in iOS Settings, so the hints, quotes, and the story behind each puzzle stay comfortable to read.

Reduce Motion

With Reduce Motion enabled, tile animations and screen transitions are minimised.

Differentiate Without Color

With this setting on, solved tiles gain a clear border — so a tile's correctness never depends on colour alone.

Contrast, contact, and comfort

Text is tuned for readability on the dark interface, touch targets are at least 44 points, and gentle haptics confirm each swap and solve.

Coming in a future update

Spoken progress

VoiceOver will call out when a tile locks into place and when you solve the puzzle, so you don't have to re-check the board after every move.

Spoken alerts

Spoken feedback for messages in the puzzle creator and share-code import.

Larger letter tiles

Letter tiles that grow with your text-size setting, not just the surrounding text.

Voice Control & Switch Control

Fully verified hands-free play, plus continued contrast and colour refinements throughout the app.
